![]() Of course, she showed Twilight off to every single available stallion at the party, but she hit the jackpot when it came to Shining Armor. It was so fancy and expensive! The young Lieutenant Commander obviously had wealth and power, just what Velvet desired. There was a certain High Society party that Velvet was hoping to get lucky at, and she dragged her daughter to Shining Armor's birthday party. It was harder than originally assumed, and Twilight hated being forced to dress up in a nice dress(hand-me-downs of course) and gussied up to be prettier just to be shown off to a stallion twice her age that just so happened to have money! Even so, Velvet never gave up. Stallions in prominent families looking for a pretty little wife. And in the meantime, Velvet hunted for options. Look pretty, stay silent, be obedient, be able to handle simple tasks like cleaning, cooking, and baring children. She was given a private tutor who taught her not only the basics, but how to be a good housewife. Thus began Twilight's adventure into knowledge. She didn't need to be smart, but she needed to know the basics. What if she could use this? She could marry her pretty little daughter off to a rich stallion and be able to mooch off them and live the high, expensive life of a mother-in-law to a rich family! Perfect! The issue was that Twilight was pretty much useless. Obviously something Velvet had passed on, of course, but it struck up an idea in Velvet's selfish mind. When Twilight reached the age of 16, Velvet started to notice something about her frail, worthless daughter. Twilight was merely an inconvenience in Velvet's lush life style. She grew up tiny and malnourished, never surpassing other mares her age since it was common for Velvet to simply forget about her daughter. Twilight grew up in the shadow of her mother, quiet and severely anxious. It wasn't like Twilight knew any better, it was how she was raised. Really, she made Twilight wait on her every need, forcing her unwanted daughter to be her servant all her young life. Velvet kept her as hidden as possible, home schooling the filly, she said. Always ranting about how she was never going to be able to find a good man now that she was ruined! A child out of wedlock! A bastard child at that! That damn stallion, running away with that ditzy little bitch! Twilight had heard many of her mother's wine drunk rants as she grew. Twilight knew from a young age her mother's thoughts about her, because Velvet never bothered to keep them quiet. So Twilight was born into this world to a mother who held no love for her, who wished her gone. An old mare not truly loved by anyone, and abandoned when it was too late to terminate her pregnancy by the asshole of a stallion who'd claimed he loved her. Bastard of a child, born to Twilight Velvet, a unicorn mare of High Society. He would save this mare, and if he had to do so by agreeing to an arranged marriage, he'd make it work. The pitiful young mare, Twilight, seemed hopeless and distraught, and it invited out the hero complex Shining Armor enjoyed fueling. It was at this party that he met Twilight Sparkle, a young mare almost forced onto him by her mother, Twilight Velvet. But he never once faltered the illusion of proud Royal Guard. Really, the entire birthday party was a blubbering social mess. Mares, single and married, young and old, flirted with him, Stallions tried to get on his good side for political pull. ![]() He had social standing of his own now, and ponies tripped over themselves to suck up to him. His birthday happened to fall within this time frame(or perhaps not "happened", since his time off was assigned to him), and it was at this birthday that he re-entered High Society. Then, he went home, forced to take a vacation due to his accrued vacation days. By his late twenties, he was already Lieutenant Commander of the Royal Guard. He rose through the ranks quickly, his charisma and natural leadership working to his advantage. Then, he disappeared from their knowledge, too focused on his dream to do much of the whole "visiting home" thing. He dropped out of his last year of school to join the Royal Guard, much to the dismay and gossip of his parents' High Society friends. He wasn't studious like Night Light, nor magically gifted like Jackpot. It was natural, as he got older, for him to dream of joining the Canterlot Royal Guard. Shining Armor was always the hero type, and maybe he has a bit of a hero complex, but he was always there to protect weaker ponies from bullying, or helping save an injured animal. First born of Night Light and Jackpot, and older brother to Trixie Lulamoon. Shining Armor was born and raised in Canterlot to his High Society family.
